Difficulties in welding copper strips

Copper strip has good electrical and thermal conductivity, but there are still many difficult problems in the welding process. The thermal conductivity of red copper belt is much greater than that of steel. Welding heat is more likely to be lost, more likely to cause excessive internal stress, resulting in welding deformation and other welding problems. Therefore, heat concentration is required during welding. Welding methods include tungsten argon arc welding and plasma welding. In addition, appropriate preheating should be carried out before welding. A small amount of brazing should not be preheated as long as it is not less than zero.

Regardless of the type of copper strip, the welding process will produce white smoke, meaning that although zinc is not a heavy metal, if the welding site is poorly ventilated, white smoke can irritate the respiratory system, especially the lungs, or if the worker is not wearing a mask, after 30 minutes of work, they will fall. Red copper tape is welding material, the material should be the same as the base material. For ordinary welding only, φ2.5-φ4 ordinary copper alloy wire can be used.

The liquid surface tension coefficient of copper strip is only 70% of that of iron. It is easy to make the molten pool roll in the welding process, and the root will not melt. To solve this problem, you must start with the same welding method and then finish. At the beginning of welding, the welding angle (10°-30°) is not suitable, but only this angle can solve the melting problem of tungsten argon arc welding.

If you want to get a high quality weld, don’t be afraid of the expensive price, it is recommended to use a very inert gas shielded flux cored wire, the welding will work well, but the cost is very high, and TIG welding itself is not cheap. In short, copper strip busbar welding is high heat, small angle and high protection work.
