Chemical Properties of Lead-Free Copper

Lead-free copper has a high positive potential, cannot replace hydrogen in water, and has excellent corrosion resistance in the atmosphere, pure water, seawater, non-oxidizing acid, alkali, salt solution, organic acid medium and soil, but copper is easily oxidized , when the temperature is greater than 200 ℃, the oxidation is accelerated. Depolarization corrosion occurs in oxidants and oxidizing acids, and it is rapidly corroded in nitric acid and hydrochloric acid.
When the atmosphere and medium contain chloride, sulfide, sulfur-containing gas, and ammonia-containing gas, the corrosion of copper is accelerated, and the surface of copper products exposed to the humid industrial atmosphere quickly loses its luster, forming basic copper sulfate and carbonic acid. Copper, the surface color of products generally undergoes changes in red-green, brown, blue and other processes. After about 10 years, the surface of copper products will be covered with verdigris, and copper oxides are easily reduced.
Copper has excellent resistance to marine biological adhesion, and is widely used in ship construction and marine engineering. The hull coated with copper-nickel alloy can increase ship speed and reduce fuel consumption. Copper is friendly to the environment. Various bacteria cannot survive on the surface of copper products. Many organic compounds of copper are indispensable trace elements for human and plant growth. Therefore, lead-free copper is widely used in the construction industry and is used in the supply of drinking water. In the conveying pipeline, it is obviously better than other road materials.
